Muslims around the world are marking entry to the Islamic New Year on April 11, 2018, officially the first day of 1440 Hijri (first Muharram) was declared. As Muharram is the Starting  month of  Islamic calendar.

According to the calendar used in most Arab world, the Muslim years 1440 have entered Hijri. It is known as the Hijri calendar because it started with the migration of Hizra, or Hegira, i.e. Prophet Mecca from Mecca to Madina (presently Saudi Arabia).


At that time, Muhammad and many Muslims fled to Medina due to tampering by unbelievers. The first Muslim state was established in Medina until it returned to Mecca after the conquest years.

In the case of the Gregorian calendar, this opportunity comes with very few festivities compared to January 1. Except Muslim major nations, this is a normal day in most secular countries.

For example in some parts of northern Nigeria, state governments have announced holidays for the day so that residents can get permission to observe such a day.

Saudi Press Agency, SPA, and Islamic Society of North America, ISNA, all announced on September 11 that it is the official date for the beginning of the new year. The SPA said in an article: "The Supreme Court has announced that tomorrow, Tuesday is the first day of Muharram, 1440 H 11 September 2018.

"It has been stated in our statement that the Moon of the month of Muharram 1440 H was not seen on Sunday evening 29/12/1439, in which the Supreme Court decided that on Monday 30/12/1439 H month will be complete According to Umm al-Qura calendar, Dhu-Alhija and Tuesday 1st 1/1/1440 is the first day of Muharram. "

According to Islamic traditions, there are two main festivals annually in the mold of Eid-ul-Fitr (Post Ramzan feast) and Eid-ul-Half (sacrifice of sacrifice) among Muslims.
