Chandigarh University says they approached the police for an investigation based on complaints from the students, although their preliminary investigation did not find any such video except a private video of the accused, which he shared with his lover.
Amid the controversy over the alleged leak of videos of students of Chandigarh University, the university administration on Sunday claimed that no such incident took place. The university claimed that the accused, who was arrested last night, shared his private video with his lover, denying reports of 60 such videos going viral. University's Pro-Chancellor Dr RS Bawa said in a statement that the claim of having found 60 such objectionable MMS is false and baseless. The university conducted a preliminary inquiry, in which it did not find any video other than a private video shot by a girl that she had shared with her boyfriend.
Mohali SSP Vivek Soni said what the university said was also supported by the police, who confirmed that only a video was found which was made by the accused.
Contrary to the allegations made by the students that the university authorities were trying to solve the whole matter under the carpet, the officials said that they called the police to investigate based on the students' request.
On the rumours of suicide attempt by the students, the university and the police are on the same page as both termed these reports as rumours. Police said a girl suffered an anxiety attack during yesterday's protest.
"There is another rumor which is spreading through the media that 60 objectionable MMS of various students have been found. This is completely false and baseless. No video of any student has been found during the preliminary investigation done by the university Which is objectionable except a personal one. Video shot by a girl which she shared with her boyfriend," RS Bawa said.
All the rumors of other girl students shooting objectionable videos are completely false and baseless. On the request of the students, Chandigarh University itself has handed over further investigation to the Punjab Police Department, which has detained a girl and lodged an FIR under the IT Act. All mobile phones and other material have been handed over to the police for further investigation, Chandigarh University is fully cooperating with the police in the investigation,” said RS Bawa.
